While the referee’s decision to award a penalty to Italy against Australia sent fans all around the world debating the decision, Huang Jian Xiang, commentating live for TV channel CCTV 5, was simply ecstatic after Grosso was brought down in the box. When Totti scored the Penalty to send Australia home, he went into an euphoric trance – he screamed, shouted, and even go as far as suggest that Maldini’s spirit is upon Grosso.
While Huang had since made a public apology, people are still guessing the story behind, some suggesting that with Totti’s goal he won a huge bet on the Italy-Australia match.
