The Game Developer’s Conference is coming to Shanghai this August 27th-29th. (link)
Some of the notable speakers for the conference include David Perry(of Earthworm Jim, MDK, Shiny Entertainment fame) and Raph Koster(Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies). Here is the list of speakers. (not up to date at the writing of this post)
At an IGDA meeting a couple of weeks back, many head of companies were expressing hestitation of sending their employees to such an event, because there is going to be a career fair right there for the full 3 days. Why send them there and risk getting your best talents prised away by your competitors? Make no mistake, with more and more studios being set up here, competition for talent is going to be fierce.
At $210 – $320(early bird price, USD) for a regular 3 day pass, I’m still not so sure if I would be going, although many of the tracks look interesting. Now if only Will Wright comes to speak…
