Old news: Mobile games publisher Digital Bridges changed its trading name to “I-play”.

The world simply can’t get enough of i’s: iPod, iTunes, iMac, iPaq, iSqueez, ... Some time ago there was even a shop selling gadgets by the name of simply, “i”. Is it still running? Is it Malaysian based? I have no idea because the name is simply un-googlable (too many iClones), congratulations on joining the iBandwagon and having the decision backfire on you!

Think this is pure iCrap? Let’s take the mobile arena alone and play cherrypicking, you’ll see how many iGoodnesses can we find. There are two major mobile game publishers- I-play and IFone. IFone is currently making big bucks doing no other than selling iClones and iPorts such as Lemmings and Tetris, Monopoly and Cluedo. Another mobile service provider, iTouch is bought over by a Japanese mobile content company recently. iMelody is an old ringtone format used by Ericsson, Alcatel, Motorola and Siemens. i-mode is NTT DoCoMo’s mobile internet access system.

You say “i is the buzz now!! lets make selling iDomains a business!!”? Too late! iDrink is taken, so is iEat, iBlog. I’m tired now, go ahead and combine i with any word that you can think of, chances are it is already taken. Want to set up a furniture store? iKea’s taken. Set up a country? iRaq, iRan, iTaly.

Here’s what you people out there actually need: iDeas, or call it i-deas, or even I-deas, however you like it.

Back to that news item on I-play: the last line says

The new brand identity was designed by branding agency Lambie-Nairn, and is intended “to bring the playfulness and fun of mobile gaming to a global audience while keeping all the technology out of sight.”

I hope the “brand identity” does not refer solely to the name I-play, because iMyselfMe could do it.

The purpose of this post? To bore the iCrap out of everybody so that names with the i prefix will be extinct by 22nd century.

Trivia: What is the name of the company that hosts this site? You guessed it.
