It is 1 a.m., we are all rushing for the game to go gold. I’ve fixed all bug-ge’s (note: that’s how my tongzhi’s here would call a “bug”) bar one, which I would address as the crazy bug from now on. The crazy bug report states that, if one were to accept a phone call when the game is in a loading phase, the phone will reboot, with a reproducing rate of 50%.
In case you still can’t get why is this bug a crazy bug, as opposed to a merely annoying bug, here’s the thing – the game won’t reboot the phone during loading phase when the alarm clock kicks in, or when you plug in a battery charger, or when you cancel a phone call, or (put your own interrupt events here), or when you barbecue the phone over a slow fire and then let it skinny dip in cold water. It only reboots when you accept a phone call during the loading phase.
Bad bug! Bad bug! Now before you crucify this one – I once had another even more bad-ass – the game would freeze when two interrupt events come at the same time. Getting a phone call while the alarm clock is also ringing while you’re playing the game? Bad luck! Game freeze for you! Luckily I didn’t have to deal with that one.
I had already used up all credits of a sim card in order to fix this bug, not to mention 2 hours spent chasing shadows. If I were the producer I would say “will not fix” faster than you say “fix”, then again, if I were the producer I would probably be shaking my leg and watching tv shows right then.
1.30a.m., the bug is still unfixed, Italy vs France is half an hour away. Luckily the producer promised to release us at 1.30. Hmmm… isn’t it 1.30 already? I promised non-football watching cherrytomato that I would go home to watch the finals with her!
1.40a.m., dread settles in, somehow we knew the man wasn’t going to keep his word. “Lets all watch it here”, he says. With what? With that TV with a crappy reception that we normally use to play games on. I have no mood for that.
1.50a.m., dread begats rage, rage begats a fixed bug! After aimlessly trying all sorts of “solution”, including slamming the phone on the table, I found the magic solution – move the frame-limiting sleep function from inside the paint loop to outside the paint loop! I am still clueless as to why did it work. 10 calls later, 20 calls later, no crash!! Hurray! I spent 3 hours and RMB30 on phone calls so that some poor soul owning a Sagem MyV76 playing our game won’t have to suffer a 50% chance of phone reboot if someone calls during the loading phase!
2.05a.m., Zidane scored the first goal, I’m still trying to get a poor soul to make my builds on behalf of me.
2. 20a.m., back home, no longer obligated to the loft, and missed the Materazzi goal. My heart goes out to those that missed the match(or got dizzy trying to watch it with bad reception) because of a game that we were mostly ashamed of.
